In his new bookThe Armed Forces: Instrument of Peace, Strength, Development and Prosperity” (published by AuthorHouse), Joseph Babatunde Fagoyinbo presents a study on harnessing the human and material resources of the military into national development programs.

Fagoyinbo’s book investigates the socioeconomic development patterns of world regions and highlights the contributions of a country’s armed forces as a case study for each region. It concludes that most developed nations harness the human and material resources of their militaries into their national development efforts. The factors that facilitate the contributions of each case study are highlighted so that less-developed and poverty-ridden nations can learn from the gains of the developed nations.

An excerpt from “The Armed Forces: Instrument of Peace, Strength, Development and Prosperity”:

“Attempts to industrialise through the armed forces may enhance economic development for developing nations. India and People’s Republic of China did it successfully. It is essential to examine some of the factors that may promote economic development and their respective methods of application towards development by specific countries, although there can be no one path to economic development for all countries as development is influenced by various factors such as historical background, economic resources, political climate, government policies and infrastructure.”

“To improve system performance,” Fagoyinbo says, “aspiring nations should foster actions that contribute to the achievement of the desired characteristics for each of the sectors involved in defense industries’ capability utilisation and conversion.”
