“I reduced it to a fifth-grade level so all can understand in plain, everyday language of our time. Fragmentation of sentences was intentional, it’s the way we talk today.”

Author J. Rogers Earnhardt grew up in a God-fearing family, learning the Bible, but always had trouble with the Book of Proverbs. Now, after 13 years of careful study and writing, he presents to readers his new book “Proverbs for Today: Even a Fifth Grader Could Understand” (published by WestBow Press).

“I have taken the 15,043 words from the King James Version of the Bible that is on a 12th grade level, in Old Elizabethan/Shakespeare English,” Earnhardt says. “I reduced it to a fifth-grade level so all can understand in plain, everyday language of our time. Fragmentation of sentences was intentional, it’s the way we talk today.”

An excerpt from “Proverbs for Today,” from the preface:

“‘Proverbs for Today’ captures the mystery of the wisdom of God and cajoles the folly of man. This marvelous, intriguing book explores the depth of knowledge given by God to man and reveals the path of divine instruction. This book is a treasure to the wise man and a millstone to the foolish.”

Earnhardt is a cashier at Walmart in Longview, Texas. He also owns Earnhardt’s Gourmet Hot Dogs Company, and he uses both Walmart and hot dogs to witness for Jesus.
