In 1999, the Golden Toad of Central America became the first documented species to go extinct due to climate change, the Nature Conservancy reports.

In an effort to stop other species from suffering the same fate, author J. Theo Olonia publishes his new book, “Now is the Time for All Good Men to Come to the Aid of Their Planet: A Shaman Warrior’s Perspective” (published by iUniverse), to educate readers about the extremely real threat of climate change.

Written in accessible language, Olonia’s book traces the evolution of the planet, detailing a scientific view of the creation of the universe and the major evolutionary changes to Earth over the last 4.5 billion years. The narrative parallels the Earth’s recent climate changes with the evolution of humanity, showing how mankind and the Earth affected one another.

The book promotes environmental awareness and warns against the prospect of climate change. Olonia provides examples of environmental damage caused by mankind and offers practical solutions to help reverse the damage. He also includes a new concept regarding mankind’s relation to “Earth-Mother” and how readers can strengthen that bond.

Olonia’s goal is to show readers how their choices today can affect the environment tomorrow and how they can be a part of a sustainable world. He hopes to encourage a “sense of purpose that will translate into a will to take action before our environment goes over the edge.”
