The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that approximately 5.2 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s while 15.4 million caregivers take care of them. Author and caregiver Judy J. Harritan reaches out to other caregivers in her new heart-wrenching memoir of caring for her mother, “My Roller Coaster Ride with Sallie: An Alzheimer's Story” (published by AuthorHouse).

“Today, many people – those with the disease and those who become caregivers – are coping with Alzheimer’s,” writes Harritan. “I hope that my experiences may help others and make their ‘roller coaster ride’ a little easier.”

For many years, Harritan watched her mother, Sallie, slowly slip away. Though Sallie was there physically, Alzheimer’s had stolen her memory, and she could no longer remember her daughter. When Sallie’s doctor believed she could no longer live alone, Harritan became her mother’s caregiver. “My Roller Coaster Ride with Sallie” gives readers expert advice on ensuring the best care for the patient – be it assisted living, nursing home or other facility – and enjoying the ride with the Alzheimer’s patient.

“It is not all negative,” Harritan assures her readers. “There are also many positives that can be found and special relationships developed during the journey.”
