Onderko Motorsports breaks with the norm and uses the social media outlet YouTube to release its 2011 Holiday Christmas Message.

Onderko Motorsports, the Nazareth based race team has done something different this year. Instead of sending out the traditional Christmas cards, the team is using the social media outlet YouTube to release its 2012 Holiday Christmas message to fans and business partners.

The team’s 2011 Christmas Holiday message can be viewed on YouTube.

Mike Onderko, team owner commented on using social media to release its holiday message, “When we were at the Performance Racing Industry Tradeshow in early December I attended a meeting on the use of social media in motorsports hosted by GRand Solutions, a sports management and consulting firm. I was amazed at the influence and the immense reach that social media has. It seems that to be successful in motorsports and business in general today, social media has to be a tool that is used.”

Onderko continued, “The ability to connect with Media/PR outlets, business partners and especially the fans on social media is critical. People today routinely communicate and do business by texting, Tweeting, Facebook and the use of LinkedIn. These outlets have to be a part of your public relations implementation plan.” Onderko noted, “But I want to clarify one important point; social media is a great tool and has to be used, but it can’t replace the face to face with the fans. That will be my teams focus in 2012, driver/fan interaction.”

Justin, the team’s driver recently created a blog to do just that, create driver/fan interaction. The blog is aptly named “Against the Grain”. It deals with how he began racing, his Late Model Championship in 2010 and now the move to the Mazda Road to Indy Series.

Justin shared his thoughts about the social impact of his blog “The intent of the blog is to give the fan a real insider’s look into what it takes to be a race driver. People often only see the glitz and the glamour; they never see the blood, sweat, tears, and the frustrations that go into this profession. I want fans to be able to relate to me and to know I am no different than them, I have the same fears, hopes and dreams they do I just happen to drive a race car for a living.”
