Rate My Professor sees millions of college students register and partake in the rating process each semester. Students visit the website in order to find out what professors are the best teachers for a given subject. At the conclusion of every semester, students return and report on their experiences with the professors they had that semester. The website is free to use and keeps records anonymous, so students can post real opinions, free of repercussions from faculty members. As always, there are small minorities of students on the website who are angry over bad grades and leave harsh criticisms, but for Kara Mahon, that is not a problem.
Even just a quick look at Kara Mahon on Rate My Professor shows she is a highly regarded professor. A perfect score in Clarity and Helpfulness, equate to a perfect score in the Overall Quality category.
Kara Mahon is an Accounting professor from Piedmont Technical College in Greenwood, South Carolina. Her devotion to the classroom is not only apparent in her work ethic, but also shows through her student's reviews, too.
"Take this class," urges one student on the Rate My Professor website, "even if it's not a part of your major."
"Great teacher," explains another former student on the website, "learned so much from her. If you can choose a teacher for accounting, pick her! She is fair and tries to help everyone understand the material."
On top of being enthusiastic with her students at Piedmont Technical College, Kara Mahon also helps the local educational community. In February, Mahon partook in the "Believing in the Dream" elementary school initiative, an outreach program designed by UC Berkley. This initiative helps to encourage kids from low-income backgrounds to stay in school and work hard, and then seek a post-secondary education.
Kara Mahon introduced "Believing in the Dream" to give younger students better chances to continue their education and become successful with their lives. She believes that it is always important for students to know that there are people believing in their success, which is why she chose to work with the program. Over sixty children have participated, and all of them left with a brighter future, because of it.
Kara Mahon is a certified public accountant and a valued member of the Accounting Department at Piedmont Technical College. Mahon's devotion to not only her students, but the community they grow up in, is testament to her professional attitude as an educator.
