Kara Mahon Accounting Professor and Community Activist Pushes for Elementary Initiative While Fall Registration Opens

Kara Mahon, a certified public accountant and accounting professor at Piedmont Technical College is not only a high ranking accounting professor, but also actively engages in education-based elementary outreach programs.

As the spring semester comes to a close in the coming month, accounting students at Piedmont Technical College would be wise to check into enrolling in Kara Mahon's accounting courses. Not only is Mahon a highly regarded professor by her students, but she is also actively engaged with the community through various programs.

The popular Rate My Professors website has a profile for students to register and rate Kara Mahon. She proudly holds a perfect score. Even just a quick look at Kara Mahon on Rate My Professor shows she is a highly regarded professor. A perfect score in Clarity and Helpfulness, equate to a perfect score in the Overall Quality category.

"Take this class," urges one student on the Rate My Professor website, "even if it's not a part of your major."

"Great teacher," explains another former student on the website, "learned so much from her. If you can choose a teacher for accounting, pick her! She is fair and tries to help everyone understand the material."

Kara Mahon is not only a positive influence for students at Piedmont Technical College, but also for students in the surrounding area's schools. In February, Mahon partook in the "Believing in the Dream" elementary school initiative, which is an outreach program generated by UC Berkley. This plan helps to give confidence to kids from low-income backgrounds to stay in school and work hard, and then seek a post-secondary education.

Kara Mahon introduced "Believing in the Dream" to give younger students better chances to continue their education and become successful with their lives. She believes that it is always important for students to know that there are people believing in their success, which is why she chose to work with the program. Over sixty children have participated, and all of them left with a brighter future, because of it.

Kara Mahon is truly active in her community. She serves as a treasurer for an array of nonprofit and community-service oriented programs throughout South Carolina. From the United Way, to the YMCA and local groups like a rotary club and the Laurens County Hospital Foundation, Kara Mahon is involved. She is also a member of both the Kappa Beta Delta business honor society and Phi Beta Lambda business club where she serves as an adviser.

Kara Mahon is a certified public accountant and a valued member of the Accounting Department at Piedmont Technical College. Mahon's devotion to not only her students, but the community they grow up in, is testament to her professional attitude as an educator.
