The Florida law firm of Katzman Garfinkel & Berger (http://www.kgblawfirm.com), with statewide offices in Margate/Ft. Lauderdale, Maitland/Orlando, Boynton Beach, Miami, West Palm Beach, St. Augustine and Naples, today announced its appointment of Kristen J. Pesicek to the newly created position of Legislative Assistant, underscoring and expanding the law firm’s commitment to advocating at the State and Local government levels on behalf of the interests of community associations throughout Florida.
Ms. Pesicek, who prior to joining the law firm served most recently as Senior Legislative Aide to Florida State Sen. Dave Aronberg, joins Katzman Garfinkel & Berger’s Transactional Department and will report to Managing Partner Donna DiMaggio Berger, Executive Director of the statewide Community Advocacy Network (CAN). Founded by the firm in 2007, CAN provides education, advocacy and outreach services to community associations statewide, while promoting positive community association legislation and advising Florida legislators against the micromanagement and over-regulation of private residential communities.
Based in the law firm’s Margate/Ft. Lauderdale office, Ms. Pesicek joins KG&B’s rapidly growing team of dedicated community association attorneys and staff serving more than 1,000 association clients through the firm’s seven strategically located offices across the State of Florida.
“Katzman Garfinkel & Berger is very pleased to welcome an aspiring young attorney of the caliber and experience that Kristen Pesicek has already displayed, working together with CAN and its Advisory Council to advance positive community association legislation in the 2011 Florida Legislative Session,” said Donna DiMaggio Berger. “Kristen’s knowledge of the internal workings of State government was a great asset in the successful defeat of anti-community association portions of the HB 5005 deregulation bill this Session and will continue to be of invaluable help as CAN works to improve Florida legislation that impacts community associations across our state.”
Prior to joining KG&B, Ms. Pesicek served in a key capacity for State Sen. Dave Aronberg as Senior Legislative Aide, managing bills through the legislative and budget process, coordinating media outreach and speaking on legislative topics at community events. She previously served as Florida Finance Assistant and Policy Coordinator for Betty Castor for United States Senate Campaign and the Campaign for Florida’s Future.
In the nation’s capital, Ms. Pesicek worked previously as Legislative Correspondent/Staff Assistant in the US Senate Office of Senator Joseph Lieberman and performed research and legislative work for the DC Primary Care Association and the George Washington Center for Health Services Research and Policy. She holds a Master of Public Policy degree from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Florida. Currently, Ms. Pesicek is pursuing her Juris Doctor Degree from Florida International University’s School of Law.
