Key West Seaplanes, the region's leader in private seaplane charter services has set a new industry standard!
Key West Seaplanes recently expanded it fleet with a one-of-kind seaplane that was custom-designed and custom-built by Wipaire, Inc specifically to meet the seaplane charter company's unique needs. This luxury seaplane came out of the Wipaire factory complete with every possible cutting-edge Wipaire modification. Now, there has been further modification to this already amazing seaplane which is every commercial seaplane operator's dream come true.
Recently when the need arose to expand their seaplane fleet, Key West Seaplanes teamed with Wipaire, Inc of So. St. Paul, MN. This world-class seaplane authority has been engineering and building the highest performing and most popular aircraft modifications since 1960. Wipaire offers a long list of the industry's finest performance enhancing modifications and factory upgrades for the Cessna 206 seaplane.
Of the amenities found on this newest Key West Seaplanes aircraft is the custom-installed Wipaire co-pilot door modification which adds an immense amount of safety and convenience for the front seat passengers by allowing a convenient third way of entering or exiting the aircraft. The door is manufactured from carbon reinforced composite material and utilizes Cessna manufactured hinges and latches. Key West Seaplanes finds that this co-pilot door vastly increases safety when approaching a seaplane dock such as at Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, an almost daily destination for the company's passengers
Key West Seaplanes newest seaplane also boast "Wip Tips" that extend the wings by 18 inches. This modification gives drastically increased performance by increasing the rate of climb and reducing the take off and landing distances. This is especially important in the hot and humid conditions found in South Florida and The Florida Keys, and for the company's seaplane charters to The Bahamas and Caribbean. This cutting-edge modification also decreases fuel usage and adds to the seaplane's flying stability at low speeds as well as increasing the safety margins in all phases of flight.
Another custom modifications to this Key West Seaplanes aircraft is the Continental I-O 550 engine upgrade coupled with a McCauley prop. Wipaire was the pioneer in this combination modification, being the first to recognize it's full potential while being able to use all 300+ horsepower continuously if desired by the pilot. With these modifications there are significant gains in climb and cruise performance. There is also a quieter operation, thus promoting a more comfortable ride for passengers. It also allows for less impact on the environment, especially in noise-sensitive areas such as Key West International Airport, Little Palm Island Resort & Spa as well as other exclusive islands resorts such as The Moorings, Hawks Cay and Cheeca Lodge.
Key West Seaplanes newest custom Cessna 206 seaplane is finished off with a brand new set of new 3450 Wipline floats with a now redesigned landing gear system! These amphibious floats allow for versatility for the commercial seaplane operator allowing aircraft take-offs and landings on water. land and even grass strips. As Wipaire excitedly states, “Wipaire’s new main landing gear features anodized aluminum machined components which increase corrosion resistance and improve serviceability. An improved gear retract system increases service life and durability, while a new greasing application purges water better to ensure years of trouble-free operation. Other components, formerly steel, have also been replaced with newly engineered aluminum parts to further improve corrosion resistance.” This enthusiasm is shared by aircraft owner Julie Ann Floyd who adds "Wipline floats are known industry-wide for both performance and durability and have been the seaplane industry's gold standard for almost 50 years. But with this newly designed main gear system, these cutting-edge Wipline floats are now the platinum standard! We at Key West Seaplanes are excited to accept the first set to be utilized on a commercially-operated seaplane." Floyd adds that she is "looking forward to enjoying increased durability and improved corrosion resistance" for an aircraft that is daily in saltwater for seaplane charter operations.
This custom seaplane was recently named "Grand Champion Seaplane" at the 38th annual Sun-N-Fun International Fly-In and Expo held in Lakeland, FL in March, 2012. Key West Seaplanes aircraft was also the centerpiece at Wipaire's display at this second largest International airshow in the world. The beautiful yellow and white seaplane attracted a lot of attention and Wipaire's president Chuck Wiplinger, and Key West Seaplane owners Julie Ann Floyd and Nikali Pontecorvo were all on hand to answer questions of many eager to learn.
Key West Seaplanes looks forward to the future as the bond between their company and Wipaire continues to grow. It is anticipated there will be further modifications to this and other aircraft in the seaplane company's fleet within the coming months.
