Patrick Schwerdtfeger released another episode of “Strategic Business Insights” today by discussing his new keynote topic: Big Data. The video begins by defining big data and where it evolved from, and it then discusses the role of algorithms and how they are the vehicle to monetize big data analytics. Patrick spoke about “Big Data and the Future of IT” at the 2013 Futurescape conference in Dubai and is available to cover the topic at other conferences as well.
Big Data evolved when data accumulation shifted from human-generated data to machine-generated data. Once machines started accumulating data, it scaled quickly and led to enormous data sets that were unmanageable using relational database techniques. Technologies like Hadoop and MapReduce facilitate scalability to data processing and that dramatically increases the possibilities of big data analytics.
“An increasing number of people are using YouTube to search for intellectual content rather than just music videos,” explains Schwerdtfeger, “and Strategic Business Insights is my way of sharing educational content with the world. A few years from now, I believe mainstream search traffic will migrate to the video format.”
