Visualizes entire mobile technology stack to aid enterprise IT in making architecture, vendor decisions

Being 'open' today is no longer limited to your code and APIs. It also requires companies to share their knowledge freely.

Kinvey, the leading Backend as a Service (BaaS) company that makes it easy for any developer to setup and operate scalable cloud backends for mobile, tablet and web apps, has published the complete mobile reference architecture for enterprises. The graphic provides a recommended architecture for IT organizations’ mobile technology stack, including prominent vendors in each category.

The enterprise mobile reference architecture depicts the interrelationships between complementary technology layers, including Mobile Application Management, Mobile Device Management, API Management, data sources, BaaS, Platform as a Service, and Infrastructure as a Service. IT decision-makers can sample select components from the proposed blueprint, customize it with vendors of their choice, or build from scratch the entire stack if needed. Kinvey’s Mobile Cloud Reference Architecture is published under Creative Commons to allow companies to share it internally and even modify the graphic to meet their needs. It can be viewed here.

“Over the past several months, I’ve spoken with literally hundreds of technology leaders at enterprises,” said Sravish Sridhar, Kinvey’s founder and CEO. “Nearly all share the same question: How can I architect a system that mobilizes data securely and efficiently? This visual is the byproduct of those discussions.”

Joe Chernov, Kinvey's VP of marketing, added, "Being 'open' today is no longer limited to your code and APIs. It also requires companies to share their knowledge freely. By publishing the Mobile Reference Architecture under a Creative Commons license, we are not only providing a resource to enterprise architects, but we are also helping them remix the stack to meet their organizations' needs."

The diagram follows Kinvey’s recent announcement of its Enterprise Edition platform, which enables enterprise developers who are building apps for their company’s workforce to “mobilize” data previously trapped in enterprise data sources, like Salesforce CRM™ or Oracle®. For further information on data mobilization strategies, on April 16, 2013 Kinvey will host a free webinar featuring guest Michael Facemire of Forrester Research, who will present on the topic “How to Future-proof Your Mobile Strategy.” Register here.
