The USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) Collin College Student Chapter toured the GLASS RECYCLED manufacturing plant recently, and was given a first-hand opportunity to see how this eco-friendly product is produced for kitchen countertops, flooring, decorator items and more.
According to the USGBC Chapter Co-Leader and trip organizer Valerie Wiley, “Our entire group was totally intrigued by GLASS RECYCLED. Not only is the product itself truly dazzling, the process of using recycled glass and totally reforming it into useful products fit perfectly with the goals of tour group."
The GLASS RECYCLED showroom is located in Plano, Texas and the manufacturing plant nearby in Coppell – both suburbs of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. With environmental issues becoming more important day by day, so are solutions to the earth’s massive waste issues. Since the average kitchen countertop uses 750 discarded glass bottles and jars, the ‘upcycling’ used in the GLASS RECYCLED process makes it an excellent alternative to traditional marble or granite choices – both which are mined from the earth, rather than giving back.
GLASS RECYCLED products can be used for a number of residential and commercial uses, are as durable as these traditional alternatives, are heat and scratch resistant, require no seal, do not emit any toxic by products and require very little maintenance to keep them as dramatically beautiful as they day it is installed.
GLASS RECYCLED’s stunning; eco-friendly products use the company’s patented process of using crushed recycled glass and porcelain products mixed with epoxy. In addition to eco-friendliness, designers particularly like the unlimited choices they have. The glass, mirror and porcelain chips come in a number of color and size options, and then combined with an epoxy to match any color. The result is truly unlimited final product color choices.
“I just love the GLASS RECYCLED products” added Ms. Wiley. “I have had a number of design projects in my various classes here at Collin College, and am always sure to use them in each one. The color choices are beautiful while at the same time help environmental guidelines by adding USGBC LEED® points to the project.”
The company website already showcases hundreds of sample choices, and product uses and with the unveiling of the new GlassSTORE, homeowners, remodelers and professional designers the ability to custom create virtually anything their mind can imagine and place an order a time convenient for them. On each order, GLASS RECYCLED will still do a personal follow up with each client to be sure to verify all details and answer any questions – assuring the final product is perfect. Items can be can be made to any specified size and shape for a kitchen countertop, bathrooms, flooring and even custom furniture and décor items. Installation is easy and can be performed by anyone familiar with traditional granite or tile installations.
