In “I Want to Be Like…” (published by Trafford Publishing), the new children’s storybook by KM Anderson, young readers are presented with a vibrantly illustrated story about a character who overcomes an identity crisis.

Like many children, Zack strives to find the right look for him. He attempts various appearances and is certain he wants to imitate other characters displayed on the walls of the paint shop. Zack faces a situation familiar to most children. There is not a predominant style, or conformity, which he can adopt to fit in with everyone. Instead, young people can express themselves through the way they look in a number of different ways. “I Want to Be Like…” shows young readers that it is perfectly acceptable to try different styles.

An excerpt from “I Want to Be Like…”:

“Zack asks the owner to paint him like them.

The owner is excited and paints Zack.

Billy uses a blow dryer and dries the paint. The owner shouts back at them.

Zack changes his mind. He tells Billy, ‘I want to be like… him!’”

Anderson encourages young readers to simply be true to themselves. “Being yourself is the most important accomplishment,” she says.

About the Author
KM Anderson has always been a creative person, dabbling in – like Zack in her book “I Want to Be Like…” – various looks, styles and even career paths. After high school, she began working toward a degree in elementary education in Miami, but she left school after two years to find herself, moving in with an aunt in Ohio. She then earned a certificate in massage therapy after moving back to Pennsylvania. Anderson’s greatest passion is art, using it as a means of expressing herself and her perspective on the world around her.
