We are thrilled to continue our long-term title sponsorship relationship with Konica Minolta
Baltimore, MD and Ramsey, NJ (Vocus) October 20, 2009 –-
Bob Carpenter, Publisher of Inside Lacrosse Magazine, announced today that Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, has extended its commitment as title sponsor of the Face-Off Classic and will also take title sponsorship of the Big City Classic. The Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic will be played on March 6, 2010, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The Konica Minolta Big City Classic will be the first event held at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on April 10, 2010.
Inside Lacrosse has broken new ground for the promotion of lacrosse with its event properties. Now entering its fourth year, the event arm of Inside Lacrosse has brought unprecedented excitement and fan interest to college lacrosse’s regular season. Inside Lacrosse has drawn nearly 100,000 fans to its five events, including 60,159 fans to its three events in 2009. With the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic and the Konica Minolta Big City Classic firmly established as destination dates for lacrosse fans, 2010 promises to bring even more attention to the nation’s fastest-growing sport.
“We are thrilled to continue our long-term title sponsorship relationship with Konica Minolta,” said Inside Lacrosse Publisher Bob Carpenter. “The commitment of Konica Minolta to the sport is refreshing and I fully expect lacrosse fans to notice. First, Konica Minolta embraced the tradition of the Face-Off Classic and helped fans celebrate the start of the season. And now, Konica Minolta has stepped up to shine the spotlight on lacrosse with the Big City Classic. We are fortunate to have them as our partner.”
"Our entire organization looks forward to continuing our commitment to the game of lacrosse, especially with our decision to become the title sponsor of the Konica Minolta Big City Classic, which will be played in our home state and will be the first sporting event at the spectacular New Meadowlands Stadium," said Kevin Kern, Vice President, Marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "Our sports marketing initiatives have proven to be very effective in building brand awareness of Konica Minolta. In partnership with our friends at Inside Lacrosse, we want to position the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic and Konica Minolta Big City Classic as premier events within the landscape of college sports, and the excitement is already building for the upcoming matchups."
2010 Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic Schedule Features a Tripleheader to Start the Season
The fourth annual Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic is the traditional start of the lacrosse season for the game’s growing fan base. This year, for the first time, the game lineup features a tripleheader.
ACC rivals, Maryland and Duke, will face off in the first game at 11:00 a.m. ET. The Blue Devils will enter the 2010 season as Face-Off Yearbook’s No. 1 ranked team while the Terps look to build on last year’s NCAA Quarterfinal appearance. The second game at 1:30 p.m. is a Face-Off Classic fixture: Princeton vs. Johns Hopkins. The storylines for these perennial powers revolve around what’s new. For the Blue Jays, it’s an influx of talent with the nation’s top recruiting class and for the Tigers all eyes will be on new head coach Chris Bates. The third game features event newcomers Notre Dame and Loyola at 4:00 p.m. Notre Dame will look to erase the taste of an NCAA first round exit (to Maryland) after finishing the 2009 regular season undefeated. Loyola narrowly missed out on a trip to the NCAAs last year and a victory over the highly-ranked Irish could prove valuable when bids are handed out for the 2010 tournament.

2010 Konica Minolta Big City Classic Set to Open the New Meadowlands Stadium with Prime-Time Match-Ups
Last year the inaugural Big City Classic broke the attendance record for a regular season, lacrosse-only event with 22,308 fans in Giants Stadium. The second year of the event will break new ground for the sport as the first event to ever be played at the New Meadowlands Stadium. This state-of-the-art facility will open its gates to lacrosse fans at the Konica Minolta Big City Classic before serving as the new home for the NFL’s Giants and Jets. The Konica Minolta Big City Classic gives New York area sports fans the chance to get an early look at the much anticipated stadium.
“The fact that a college lacrosse lineup will open up the New Meadowlands Stadium is simply an amazing opportunity,” said Carpenter. “This allows us to raise the profile of lacrosse and continue attracting new fans to the sport.”
The schedule for the Konica Minolta Big City Classic has been set. Delaware and Hofstra will face off in the first game at 1:00 p.m. ET. The second game will be Virginia vs. North Carolina at 4:00 p.m. The third game will be played during prime-time with Princeton and Syracuse set to face off at 6:30 p.m.
The six lacrosse teams involved are worthy of the big stage. North Carolina, Virginia, Syracuse, Princeton, Hofstra and Delaware have advanced to the NCAA Semifinals a combined 69 times. They have won 25 NCAA championships, including the back-to-back titles Syracuse claimed during the last two seasons.
