KnowledgeTree™, the world's leading Open Source document management system for small to medium-sized organizations, today announced the launch of a new website and release of all related product documentation, marketing material and developer guides under the Creative Commons Attribution License.
The KnowledgeTree Document Management System and associated software is already released under a number of open source licenses. Making all related documentation and marketing material available under open license terms is strongly complementary to this approach.
"KnowledgeTree is all about simplicity and open source. In fact, we feel so strongly about promoting simplicity and freedom that we have open sourced our entire web presence and all of our marketing material and documentation. We want our community to use our intellectual property in any way they desire: from adapting our documentation for use within their organizations to utilizing our developer documentation as the basis for documentation for their own KnowledgeTree-related products," stated KnowledgeTree COO Daniel Chalef.
The entire KnowledgeTree web presence and all other publicly available material generated by KnowledgeTree now carry a Creative Commons Attribution Deed logo. Users of material licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution license may copy, distribute and display the material - and derivative works based upon it - provided they credit KnowledgeTree for having developed it.
The KnowledgeTree website may be found at: http://www.knowledgetree.com
KnowledgeTree's vision is to make document management simple. The web-based and AJAX-enabled application is built on the popular open source LAMP (Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack. KnowledgeTree has significant open source community traction and has been downloaded more than 350 000 times to date. It is the leading commercial open source document management system designed for the SMB and departmental user.
KnowledgeTree is available in three editions: KnowledgeTree Enterprise, KnowledgeTree SMB and KnowledgeTree Open Source. The commercial editions of KnowledgeTree are sold with access to priority support and offer additional functionality that provides a familiar Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office interface into the document repository and direct-to-repository scanning capability.
