Inside Lacrosse has built a winning event here - one we are thrilled to sponsor
Baltimore, MD. and Ramsey, N.J. (Vocus) November 7, 2007
Bob Carpenter, Publisher of Inside Lacrosse, announced today that Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A, Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of imaging and networking technologies, is the title sponsor of the Face-Off Classic. The Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic presented by The Baltimore Sun will be played on March 1, 2008, at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
In just its second year, the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic signals the start of the lacrosse season for the game's growing fan base. This event includes the top names in men's college lacrosse, featuring the four teams that have won every NCAA Championship since 1991: Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Syracuse and Virginia. The first game of the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic will start at 12:00 p.m. EST on March 1 with Virginia playing Syracuse. The second game will get underway at 2:30 p.m. with Johns Hopkins - facing Princeton. Johns Hopkins - the defending national champion - is pre-season ranked No. 1. Virginia is ranked No. 3, Princeton is at No. 8, and Syracuse is ranked No. 11.
"We are thrilled to team up with Konica Minolta," said Inside Lacrosse Publisher Bob Carpenter. "This is an exciting opportunity not only for Inside Lacrosse, but also for the sport as a whole. Lacrosse is played by those within the highest demographic in team sports, and the companies that have the foresight to come on board with us now, are truly getting in on the ground level of something special. Konica Minolta is a brand name recognized nationally and internationally for high-quality performance. This image fits in perfectly with the teams, the fans and the sport of lacrosse."
"We're excited to extend our sports marketing to the game of lacrosse and the Face-Off Classic," said Kevin Kern, vice president of product planning and marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. "Our growing investment in sports marketing has proven to be an excellent vehicle for reaching our customers, and is increasing the brand awareness of our imaging and networking technologies - including the award-winning line of bizhub™ multifunctional products.
Inside Lacrosse also announced that The Baltimore Sun has signed on as a presenting sponsor of the event. As a principle media partner, The Sun will help build awareness for the event and the beginning of another exciting college lacrosse season. According to Carpenter, "Lacrosse has a unique place in the Baltimore community and no newspaper in the world has embraced lacrosse as being such an integral part of its sports coverage like The Baltimore Sun has. The Sun's support will help insure that the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic becomes one of the signature events in all of lacrosse."
"Inside Lacrosse has built a winning event here - one we are thrilled to sponsor," said Tim Thomas, vice president of marketing for The Baltimore Sun Media Group. "Each week, The Sun and baltimoresun.com reach more than a million people in the Baltimore region, and I bet that all but a handful are lacrosse fans! We can't wait for March 1st."
The inaugural Face-Off Classic (March 3, 2007) was one of the break-out success stories of 2007. The event marked the first time that the top-four ranked lacrosse teams in the nation faced off in one place to begin the season. A total of 20,180 fans attended the games, breaking the regular season attendance record for college lacrosse.
Ticket prices for 2008 will be $10 each for groups of 10 or more, $15 for Lower Level reserved seats and $25 for Club Level seats. All seats are reserved and lacrosse fans are urged to make their plans early to reserve the best seats in the house. Fans interested in ordering tickets for the March 1 event can call the Baltimore Ravens box office at 410-261-RAVE or go to http://www.ticketmaster.com.
