A dream house in a unique coastal location
The villa started out as a dream for the owner, Philippe Salmon, who fell in love with Krabi on his first visit in 1997. The French lawyer, who is also a music buff and collector of antique toys, had traveled extensively in Asia prior to finding what he describes as “this magical place.” He conceived the idea of creating a space here for friends and family to meet in complete comfort and style, yet still in the embrace of the magnificent natural surroundings.
Deliberately avoiding areas he thought may become overdeveloped, Salmon spent several years hunting for the ideal piece of land in Krabi for his project. Once found, he invited the noted Parisian architects, Studio Maréchaux to create a design for the steeply sloping terrain, which is surrounded by lush vegetation and drops off dramatically into the Andaman Sea.
Luxury in complete harmony with nature
The resulting villa is an inspired blend of luxury and simplicity: environmental factors such as sun position and wind pattern have been exploited and combined with simple, unfinished natural materials to create not only comfortable, open living spaces, but an elegant aesthetic, where the elements blend seamlessly and nature itself is constantly framed in unexpected ways.
The minimalist, zen-like design is perfectly complemented by the personal touch Salmon has brought to the villa, filling the rooms with Asian objets d’art and antique furniture from his extensive travels; while splashes of colour are added with fine Chinese silks and his personal collection of paintings.
A place of stimulating contrasts
The unique layout of this Krabi villa affords both intimacy and entertainment on a grand scale. Guests can enjoy their own private space, in four individual bungalows oriented to ensure seclusion. Then, within the main house, an abundance of communal space allows for gatherings around the pool deck, in front of the giant cinema screen, in a relaxed lounge, or in the al fresco dining area on the observation deck.
At Baan Koh Koo one feels at once pampered with every luxury and convenience, yet humbled by the awe-inspiring land-and-sea-scape. Guests will experience a deep sense of peace and calm, and at the same time the thrill of freedom and adventure.
A location with infinite possibilities
This villa would make a perfect and memorable venue for any special event, be it a team building weekend, a yoga retreat, a family reunion, or a wedding in Krabi. As a fully staffed holiday villa, it offers everything for a unique and luxurious getaway. Both dramatic and intimate, Villa Koh Koo is a remarkable achievement of one man’s vision and its dazzling execution.
