New York, NY (PRWEB) December 6, 2010
Today, Kuroo announced the launch of “Kuroo-Safe”, a location-based personal safety application for the iPhone®. “Kuroo-Safe” is the first in a series of personal security apps that allow friends and families to find, rescue & protect each other in times of distress. Kuroo is derived from the Japanese word "kuru" which means “to come”.
“The second most dangerous city in the country, Camden, New Jersey, is cutting its police force and cities across the US are making cutbacks to emergency services. So who can help us when we’re in trouble?” asked Cedric Gore, CEO of Kuroo. “We turn to each other.”
Kuroo-Safe has three primary features: Check-IN, Where-RU and Panic:
“I love using services like Facebook Places, Foursquare and Gowalla, but lets face it, sharing location details with strangers over the Internet can be dangerous,” said Dmitri Fuerle, Kuroo’s CTO. He added, “However, sharing location details within a safety network of family and friends who can find and help you, if needed, demonstrates a great use of location-based service technology."
Kuroo is offering a fully functional free version that can be used with one contact. The $2.99 version can be used with an unlimited number of contacts. Both are available for download from the iTunes App Store. Kuroo expects to add many new features in future releases. Additional mobile platforms, including Android and Blackberry, will be supported in the coming weeks.
