Whether the goal is to try something new, to improve your skills, or to participate in a custom-designed program, L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools has an adventure waiting in locations throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

New in 2008:
~ The memorable island-hopping kayak trip in Chesapeake Bay, where guests spend one night camping on a pristine island and another at a charming inn in between their paddling excursions, was so popular that they have added a similar option in Maine for 2008. The Casco Bay, Maine Island-Hopping Kayak Trip is designed to give guests a unique view of Maine's diverse landscape and history in a special part of the world. While there are so many islands in Casco Bay that they are known as the Calendar Islands (one for every day of the year), this three-day paddling excursion will introduce just a few of the islands in this virtually unchanged landscape. This three-day trip, featuring an easy-to-moderate activity level, departs on July 18-20, August 22-24 and September 12-14 and is $750.00 per person (for a single room, add $135.) No previous paddling or camping experience is necessary. Minimum age is 12.

~ For anglers looking to enjoy a memorable vacation or take their fishing experience to the next level without having to rearrange their schedule, L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools now offers a wide variety of private fishing lessons that give you the freedom to go when and where is convenient for you. Private fly-casting lessons are available for individuals or a group of up to four people with an expert instructor in Freeport, Maine and Columbia, Maryland. An L.L.Bean fly-casting instructor will tailor a lesson to meet your needs and goals. Or try Guided Kayak Fishing in salt or fresh water with the aid of expert guides in Maine (Casco Bay and Maine waters) or Maryland and Virginia (Chesapeake Bay and Virginia rivers) who will use their kayaking skills and knowledge of the water to sneak up on feeding fish — a luxury lost on powerboats. Plus all fly and spin fishing tackle is provided. Pricing varies based on itinerary and size of group - for more information call 888-552-3261. Minimum age for private fishing casting lessons is 8, fishing trips is 12.

~ Families can experience the unforgettable coastal waters around Maine without breaking the bank this season — L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools now offers youth pricing on selected family-friendly adventures like the Belgrade Lakes Canoe Camping Trip, a two-day, one-night journey in Maine's Belgrade Lake region is $299.00 per adult, and $225.00 for youth (ages 6-15). The Half-Day Kayak Tours in Casco Bay, Freeport, Maine or Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis, Maryland offer discounted pricing of $39.00 for youth (ages 10-15) - the adult price is $59.00. Other special departures, like the Portland Harbor Sunset Kayak Tour also feature youth pricing — $49.00 per adult, $39 for youth (ages 10-15). And the Portland Harbor 90 Minute Kayak Tour features $29 for adults and $19 for youth (ages 10-15). Visit http://www.llbean.com/ods for more information.

The L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Schools started in 1979, and has grown to include many activities in the ensuing years, but the guiding principals have remained the same: Nature is something to be revered and stewarded. Family ties are a priority. Being neighborly is a matter of course. And sharing love of the outdoors is a way of life. These are the foundations of the business, and are inherent in every trip offered - whether it is a two-hour Walk-On Adventure or a three-day kayak trip.
