Winning Schools Receive Up to $2,500 to Support Gardening and Science Programs

“With the help of funds from our “Way to Grow" sweepstakes, the 15 winning schools will help kids learn important life lessons through gardening and science programs,” said Adam Weil, director of School Uniforms, Lands’ End.

Lands’ End believes that small steps, such as planting a seed, can make a big difference to help the environment. This spring, the company is making a big difference for 15 schools throughout the nation with its “Way to Grow” sweepstakes. Lands’ End today announced the 15 winning schools that will receive up to $2,500 to support gardening and science programs. The “Way to Grow” winning schools are:

  • PS 290 Manhattan New School in New York, N.Y.
  • Maharishi School Of The Age Of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa
  • St. Francis Xavier School in Jefferson City, Mo.
  • Park Elementary in Cross Plains, Wis.
  • St. Francis High School in Traverse City, Mich.
  • Kealing Middle School in Austin, Texas
  • Epiphany Catholic School in Coon Rapids, Minn.
  • Mount Horeb Intermediate Center in Mount Horeb, Wis.
  • Ellis School in Fremont, N.H.
  • Purcell-Marian High School in Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Amherst Elementary in Amherst, Wis.
  • Holy Family School in Freeburg, Mo.
  • St. Irene School in Warrenville, Ill.
  • The Prairie School in Racine, Wis.
  • Holy Family Regional School in Rochester Hills, Mich.

“Way to Grow” Towards a Million Dollar Difference
“Way to Grow: Plant a Seed, Make a Difference” is part of Lands’ End’s commitment to give back $1 million to schools in 2010. The nationwide initiative connects kids, parents and schools through gardening to draw attention to small steps we can take to make a big difference for the environment. From April 5 through May 14, 2010, parents, teachers and community members could vote for their schools in the “Way to Grow” sweepstakes online at The top 15 schools with the most votes are receiving up to $2,500 to support gardening and science programs.

As part of “Way to Grow,” Lands’ End partnered with to fund educational gardening requests at 17 schools nationwide. The selected kindergarten through 5th grade teachers were seeking support to start and/or sustain gardening lessons and projects for their students. Lands’ End’s donations completed funding for projects at these schools that range from establishing a school garden to developing gardening-related science curriculum. A Legacy of Giving Back: Lands’ End School Rewards
Since 1998, Lands’ End has helped schools raise funds by giving up to three percent cash back on the net sales of school uniform purchases to Preferred Schools through its School Rewards program.
