The Lane Weinberg Wilbraham Band performed Wednesday in front of 200-gathered-readers at the Wilbraham Public Library, all part of the band’s latest initiative to promote reading.

“The Lane Weinberg Wilbraham Band is part of this community, therefore we place it upon ourselves to contribute,” said Michelle Green, singer in the band. “We have provided entertainment in other related events, but coming to the library and playing to excite the children to read is our first such event.”

The Lane Weinberg Wilbraham Band consists of Michelle Green, vocals; Richard Smith, saxaphone; Kelly Ho, organ; Ashley Michaels, guitar; and Bob Ray, bass.

“The Lane Weinberg Wilbraham Band turned to the library and suggested the idea of setting up outside and playing for the children, we thought it was a great idea,” said Melanie Ross, Wilbraham Library Director.

The band set up their equipment and played six different popular children songs. Following the performance the band spoke about the importance of reading.

“It was really fun, they allowed the kids to dance and sing along. My children were really impressed by their enthusiasm about reading,” said a local mother. “When the Lane Weinberg Wilbraham Band started packing up their equipment, my children urged me to go get them a book, I couldn't be happier.”
