“It’s a new take on the old can of spare change sitting on the front counter”, says Micah Bleecher, who handles all the marketing for the agency. “If someone wants to give and doesn’t have a Smart Phone, I’ll use mine and Check-In for them.

Bleecher Insurance, a Farmers Agency in Las Vegas, is using a novel way to attract more fans to their Facebook business page. For every new fan that “LIKES” their page on Facebook each month, they are sending a Dime to the March of Dimes. While a dime may not sound like much, the business owners, Micah and Maria Bleecher are hoping it adds up.

In a world of pledging, walking, and 5k runs, this method makes giving to help babies a piece of cake. All you have to do is visit the Bleecher Insurance Facebook page from the comfort of your home or office and click your mouse on the LIKE button. Bleecher Insurance does the math and sends in the money each month. It’s as simple as that.

In addition to becoming one of their Facebook Fans, if you use your Smart Phone while visiting their offices at 3085 S Jones Blvd in Las Vegas and “Check-In” using your Facebook or FourSquare social networking apps, Bleecher Insurance will send in another dime. They have posters and signage around the office and on each desk to remind customers to pull out their Smart Phone and click on the Check-in buttons. The GPS on your Smart Phone will pull up Bleecher Insurance on your Facebook and Foursquare apps.

It’s better than the ticket-in/ticket-out systems at the casinos. You give us a social media shout-out and we send March of Dimes the money.”

“Running a retail insurance business requires a great deal of direct involvement with our local community” according to Maria Bleecher, “and that is one of the things we like most about our work. This day and age your community is more than just the city you live in, it’s everyone you touch while participating in the collective dialogue of social media,” Bleecher said.

The March of Dimes is the Official Charity of Farmers Insurance Group. Farmers Insurance Group holds numerous fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for this fine organization (including the PGA Farmers Open Birdies for Babies event) and encourages all of its agents to participate by giving generously.

The March of Dimes was founded on the eve of World War II by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who served our country from a wheelchair, and was himself a victim of Polio. FDR was memorialized on the U.S. dime for his special connection to The March of Dimes which evolved from a grass roots effort into the world’s leading charity to prevent birth defects.
