Deasy will address graduates during the education division’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Pepperdine’s main campus in Malibu, CA. The University will confer Deasy with the Doctor of Humane Letters.
As superintendent of the nation’s second largest school district, Dr. Deasy oversees all educational and administrative issues, develops operational procedures; and directs the assignment of school administrators. Prior to joining the LAUSD in August 2010, Deasy served as deputy director of education for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Dr. Nadine Kaslow, PhD, ABPP, will address graduates receiving degrees in psychology at the afternoon ceremony. Kaslow leads innovative programs at Emory University where she is professor and vice-chair in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and director of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Professional Psychology, Emory University School of Medicine; Chief Psychologist, Grady Health System. Pepperdine will confer Kaslow with the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
