Attorneys from the Law Offices of Lynda McMaken, P.S. are now available to speak and answer questions at educational workshops and seminars on family and business law. McMaken offers this community service to private groups and at public events at no cost. McMaken's law firm specializes in business law, estate planning and divorce - Cordial Divorce™.

"We want to give our community members a head start in planning for the important legal decisions that they will be making in their lives, whether it is starting a new business, planning their estate or entering into separation or divorce," says McMaken. "We have opened our seminars, without cost, to a variety of groups, from non-profits to family health organizations to private businesses. There are many common questions that can be answered before you talk to your attorney."

McMaken gave some examples of the types of questions that people frequently have. "Divorce is a life-changing situation that impacts family members on many levels. Divorcing or separating couples need answers to questions like how the court will divide their assets and liabilities, what will happen to their children, how will their credit be affected, how long it will take, how will job loss affect the dissolution, and how much it will cost," says McMaken.

McMaken went on to say that frequently asked estate planning questions include the basics, such as what is a will, what is a trust (or a living trust), how does a living will work, what happens in probate, what is a deferred gift and how do I make one, and what are the possible tax consequences? In the area of business planning, McMaken noted that while entrepreneurs have great ideas for starting a business, they need to take several legal planning steps to help ensure their success. How do they start, run and finance a business? What is the best form for their business: corporation, LLC or partnership? What do they do first? How do they hire people and avoid a situation where they need to fire them? What is the best way for their business to set up and account for their books?

Groups small or large that would like to discuss these topics with an experienced attorney in an open question and answer setting can contact Lynda H. McMaken at (206) 842-4731. Attorneys are available throughout the Puget Sound area or in conference rooms at McMaken's downtown Bainbridge Island office at 900 Winslow Way East.
