Chronicling his prior arrest as a suspected Russian spy, his work on the Manhattan Project of WWII-era fame, his experience in the Navy and more, author Lawrence S. Bartell releases his new collection of 22 real-life stories, “True Stories of Strange Events and Odd People: A Memoir” (published by iUniverse).

Bartell encountered many strange events over the course of his long career in the military and the scientific profession. His work on the Manhattan project exposed him to high levels of radiation; during his time in the Navy he acquired rheumatic and scarlet fevers, and was discharged with a 100 percent disability in 1945; as a post-war scientist he was inducted into the seventeenth issue of the Guinness Book of World Records for scientific accomplishment, displacing a former scientist, Albert Crewe, who carried out vengeful actions upon Bartell.

Through all of these memorable happenings Bartell carried with him a sense of humanity, approaching each situation with an appreciation for its significance. He now examines many seemingly unbelievable events as metaphors for human interaction and the effects of science on war and society in “True Stories of Strange Events and Odd People”.
