It’s so important that our young people should be able to celebrate their high school graduation night in a safe environment, without the lethal combination of drinking and driving.

In November of 2010, Sacramento personal injury and class action law firm, Kershaw, Cutter & Ratinoff, initiated a call to action when they began using their Facebook page to support local community organizations. They'd hoped to spark a new enthusiasm among the business community to support non-profits and other charities that work for social good. Since then, the firm has supported a different organization each month by donating $5 for each new fan their page receives, with a monthly limit of $5,000. Their list of beneficiaries includes the Sacramento Food Bank, Sierra Forever Families, Mustardseed Foundation, Legal Services of Northern California, and the California Brain Injury Association.
For the month of April, they’ll use their Facebook page to generate donations for the Cosumnes Oaks High School Safe and Sober Grad Night. And they're calling other businesses – especially other automobile accident attorneys – to join the effort and lend financial support.
“When we heard that Cosumnes Oaks High School was reaching out to accident attorneys to support their Safe & Sober Grad Night, but were receiving little response, it seemed like a great fit for our Facebook promo,” says partner Eric Ratinoff. “The parent committee has been struggling to generate the money they need to make this event happen. It’s so important that our young people should be able to celebrate their high school graduation night in a safe environment, without the lethal combination of drinking and driving.”
Cosumnes Oaks High School opened its doors in 2008 in Elk Grove School District. This is the first year that the school will host a Safe and Sober Grad Night celebration, and they anticipate a near 100% attendance from its 2011 class of graduating seniors. The celebration receives no financing out of the school budget, and is run completely by parents and volunteers. They are almost $10,000 short of their $18,000 goal, with all funds needed to secure their venue and entertainment in April.
