In “Leaving a Cult: A Boy's Journey to Life in Christ” (published by AuthorHouse), authors and siblings David and Catherine Gervais recount their time spent with a religious cult, the horrors they encountered and the guiding light that led them out of darkness and into light.

At the age of 17, David longed for a deeper connection with Jesus Christ. It was 1972 and new peace movements spread across the country. David’s attention, however, is focused on the “Jesus People,” a group of seemingly ideal believers. As he joins the cult and becomes more immersed, chains of bondage begin to form around his life preventing him from seeking a true relationship with Jesus.

Now over 40 years later, David shares his story in the hopes to reach out to other survivors and those seeking God. “In spite of the detour I took into false doctrine, the hand of the Lord was ever guiding me through,” David explains.

An excerpt from “Leaving a Cult”:

“The haunting melody was being sung in harmony with a lovely soprano voice weaving her tune like a nightingale whose notes reached upward to heaven itself. I gazed with wonder at everyone in the room whose eyes were closed and hands were raised in a dreamlike state. Then, as if by magic, everyone in the room began to sing their own personal praises to the Lord.”

David advises readers, “Regardless of where you are, God is always watching over you in sometimes unexpected ways. Listen to his voice and he will steer you to the right road.”
