Kids Across the Country Can Create Personal Parties that Give Back

The spirit of giving is a family affair and together parents and children can come up with creative party themes that celebrate the child’s personality and the community as a whole.

Are parents looking for a new party idea that could ultimately nurture a charitable mindset in their child forever?

Lemons to Aid , a movement encouraging kids to give to others by getting involved in creative ways, has created a party invitation for children to send to friends that in lieu of birthday presents, the party will raise money or gather items to donate to a favorite nonprofit.

Studies show that when children regularly witness and participate in charitable acts and philanthropic giving, they are more inclined to maintain a giving mindset for the rest of their lives.

Potential party themes could be:

  •     Host a party at a library in which each child brings a book. During the party each child shares why the book has meaning to him/her and the group ultimately makes a donation of all of the books to the library.
  •     Create a party in which each child brings a jar of peanut butter. Create a scavenger hunt with a “NUT” theme in which the kids ultimately learn that peanut butter, with its high protein content, has long been a staple most needed by food banks to help feed hungry children.
  •     Have each child bring a gently used item of clothing. Create a list of five different charities that can use the clothes and then create a game in which the kids ultimately decide which organization receives the clothes. If realistic, take the party to the drop off site to celebrate!

The spirit of giving is a family affair and together parents and children can come up with creative party themes that celebrate the child’s personality and the community as a whole.
