Saturday, November 6, 2010 Lerner Medical Devices, Inc. (LMD) will showcase Levia®, a new Personal Targeted Phototherapy TM device for the self-treatment at home of small area plaque and scalp psoriasis, during The National Psoriasis Foundation’s (NPF) Walk to Cure Psoriasis in Dallas.

“We are proud to be NPF sponsors,” said John R. Lyon, CEO of LMD. “We look forward to joining the Walk this weekend and introducing psoriasis patients in the Dallas area to Levia® and home UVB phototherapy.”

A Levia patient, Morgan Chapa (13), is the Dallas Walk Youth Ambassador. Under the care of her dermatologist, Alan Menter, M.D., of Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, Morgan has been successfully treating her psoriasis at home with Levia’s targeted Ultraviolet B (UVB) light. “UVB light using the specific Narrow band wavelength is a proven, non-systemic treatment for psoriasis,” said Dr. Menter; “self-treatment at home, with the device controlled by the physician’s preset prescription, now provides the option for many psoriasis patients, for whom frequent office visits are difficult to schedule, to be treated with UVB.”

“Levia is so easy to use, and with time demands from orchestra, AP classes and cheer practice, it fits my schedule and lifestyle since I can treat myself at home,” said Morgan. “I’ve seen amazing results which means the world to me. Getting clear of my psoriasis is just part of what I am celebrating. I am the Youth Ambassador for the Dallas Walk for Psoriasis and I want the world to know just how many millions of people suffer from psoriasis and how important it is to find a cure. Together we can make a world of difference.”

Senior Nurse Educator of LMD, Linda J. Hornbeek, RN, DNC, said: “I have been following Morgan’s Levia treatment closely with her and her family. I am delighted at the progress she has made in controlling her psoriasis and the contribution of Levia in allowing her to fit her treatment sessions into her very busy school, sports and social schedule. There are as many as 150,000 people with psoriasis in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area. We believe that Personal Targeted Phototherapy with Levia® will enable many of them to lead their busy lives and yet treat their condition conveniently and privately at home with safe and proven UVB light.”

The Dallas Walk will take place on Saturday, November 6 at Reverchon Park, 3505 Maple Ave, and begins at 9 a.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. Walkers have a choice of a 1k (.62 mi) or a 5k (3.1 mi) course. At the conclusion of the Walk, snacks, beverages and entertainment will be provided. All proceeds and donations from the Walk go towards research and finding a cure for psoriasis. The NPF holds Walks in many major cities across the U.S.
