Lewis University is pleased to announce it is ranked #35 in the Midwest regional category in the 2013 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s annual publication, “America’s Best Colleges.” The university has shown substantial growth in its rankings in recent years. It is an improvement over last year’s ranking at #41.
Lewis was evaluated on several criteria, including academic reputation and peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. U.S. News first categorizes colleges and universities by mission, then ranks institutions in each category against each other based on their composite scores. The magazine publishes the yearly rankings to allow potential students to quickly and easily compare higher education institutions based on generally accepted indicators of high quality.
“The advantages of a Lewis University education continue to increase,” said Brother James Gaffney, FSC, President of Lewis University. “Lewis maintains a blend of liberal learning and career-related education with significant learning opportunities. We assist our students in securing meaningful and well-paying jobs.”
This year’s ranking confirms once again the quality of the career-oriented programs available at Lewis University. Currently the university offers several degree programs online designed to help busy working adults develop professionally and move on to the next stage of their careers.

Lewis University was one of the first institutions to pioneer the hybrid discipline of criminal and social justice studies. Today, the online Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice offers law enforcement and public safety professionals an analysis of related social and ethical issues they’ll face as leaders in the field. Additional studies in management and administration make this a combination of skills that’s in high demand. Students can choose a track in Homeland Security or design a custom track with electives of their choice.
The Master of Science in Public Safety Administration focuses on the increasing challenges of managing all types of public safety agencies and organizations. Coursework covers a range of topics that reflect the widening responsibilities of public safety leaders, including leadership studies, fiscal skills, laws and liability, working with culturally diverse communities and more.
