Whether they served in war or supported on the home front, their stories must be told. What will our grandchildren know of our parents and grandparents if we do not act today?
Dallas, TX (Vocus) August 8, 2009
The Priceless Legacy Company CEO Peter Gudmundsson issued this statement urging people to use the passing of Harry Patch, the last surviving English World War I veteran to serve as reminders for the importance of approaching life story preservation with a sense of urgency.
"Mr. Patch outlived millions of his peers and had his experience well and appropriately recorded," said Gudmundsson. "Most war veterans and their families are not as fortunate. With 1,800 veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam dying each day, we have an obligation to do more."
Death can be sudden or expected, but in either case its impact on loved-ones and families can be ameliorated by people taking the time to record their life stories and lessons. All loss of life is a tragedy, but it is sobering to consider how many regular people and families, faced with the same expectations, fail to act in preparation for either scenario.
"Our parents and grandparents are the real celebrities of our lives," said Gudmundsson. "Whether they served in war or supported on the home front, their stories must be told. What will our grandchildren know of our parents and grandparents if we do not act today?"
