Lower blepharoplasty, also know as cosmetic lower lid surgery, is a common reason patients come to the doctors in the facial plastic surgery department at La Peer Health Systems in Beverly Hills. To maintain an aesthetically pleasing and youthful appearance of the lower lids, a variety of cosmetic procedures were traditionally required, including the removal of the lower lid “bags”, excision of excess skin and filling in the hollows or depressions around the eyes. However, La Peer Health Systems oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Guy Massry has developed a new procedure to attain reliable and reproducible aesthetic rejuvenation of the lower eyelids.
The new procedure is called the Lift and Fill Lower Blepharoplasty. The procedure uses lower lid fat translocation, also called fat repositions, to reduce fat prominence and fill depressions, and combines it with lower lid muscle tightening, also called orbicularis suspension. The combined procedures have only been studied independently of one another and have not been published together.
La Peer Health Systems physician, Dr. Massry, recently reported the results of his study of the Lift and Fill Lower Blepharoplasty at the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Orlando Florida in fall 2011. The data has been submitted for publication in the peer-reviewed journal “Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery,” accepted for publication and will be released within the calendar year. An abstract of the article can be viewed by following this link http://journals.lww.com/op-rs/Abstract/publishahead/The_Lift_and_Fill_Lower_Blepharoplasty.99606.aspx.
Fat plays an important role in keeping the skin, especially the skin around the eyes, looking young and vibrant. The Lift and Fill Lower Blepharoplasty supports and improves the lower lids’ natural shape, while filling hollows, tightening and most importantly preserving fat.
The Lift and Fill Lower Blepharoplasty was derived from Dr. Massry’s continuing effort to innovate and improve the field of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
