Lighthouse Bay Resort, Barbuda, Celebrates Grand Opening with Group
of 120 VIPs, Local Tourism and Government Officials
LOWER BAY, Barbuda (Business Wire EON/PRWEB ) December 9, 2008 --
Lighthouse Bay Resort, an exclusive private island resort in Barbuda,
Eastern Caribbean, just a 15-minute flight from Antigua, recently
celebrated its grand opening with fanfare, local government and tourism
officials and a resort full of U.S. and international guests.
Mike Branker, owner of Lighthouse Bay Resort and a native of Barbuda,
welcomed all to the realization of his dream. “I am very grateful to my
management team and staff for their contribution to making this
reality,” he said. Branker petitioned the government in 1998 to
reinstate his grandparent’s lease on their land on Lower Bay. “I made a
vow to myself that if I had two cents together, I would build on this
beach.”
Branker cut the ceremonial ribbon for the grand opening, along with
Trevor Walker, Parliamentary Representative for Barbuda. “Lighthouse Bay
Resort will bring back world recognition of Barbuda as an island
paradise,” Walker told the crowd of 120 who had gathered for the
festivities. “Mike Branker is showing all Barbudans that they too have
an opportunity to develop and promote the island.”
Following the ceremony, guests were entertained with music from a local
Antigua band. As a special treat, groups were taken by boat to
experience the largest frigate bird sanctuary and nesting grounds in the
world just 10 minutes away.
Lighthouse Bay Resort features nine luxuriously-appointed ocean-front
guest rooms and suites, highly personalized service from a staff of 25,
resident gourmet chef, fitness center, 24-hour concierge and roof-top
restaurant with 360-degree ocean views. The resort was recently
recognized in the New York Times Travel Section as Number 3 of 39
Reasons To Go To The Caribbean This Year. Lighthouse Bay is base camp to
explore Barbuda’s tranquility and signature activities of sailing,
diving, exploring hidden caves and bays, shell hunting and horseback
riding.
