Inexpensive healthcare can be beneficial, but studies have shown that Lipitor—including generic versions—has serious side effects.
Philadelphia, Penn. (PRWEB) May 29, 2013
Grocery chain Wegmans, looking to gain market share, is giving out free generic Lipitor to customers to whom the drug has been prescribed by doctors, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.* The Rottenstein Law Group LLP, which manages the Lipitor Lawsuit Center at http://www.lipitorlawyer.us, is concerned by this promotion and notes an alleged link between Lipitor and an increased risk of type-2 diabetes in women who use the drug to lower their cholesterol levels.
The supermarket business is competitive, and Wegmans was looking for an edge over its competitors, according to the Inquirer story. The promotion was intended to end in April 2013, but the chain extended it through December.
“Inexpensive healthcare can be beneficial, but studies have shown that Lipitor—including generic versions—has serious side effects,” said Rochelle Rottenstein, principal of the Rottenstein Law Group LLP. “It is important to keep in mind that there are several people who have filed Lipitor lawsuits across the nation because of these.”
Rottenstein was referring to at least two studies that link Lipitor use and diabetes. A 2011 study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found the general relationship, and a study published in the January 2012 edition of JAMA: Internal Medicine highlighted the risk for women.**
Plaintiffs across the country who have taken Lipitor are filing lawsuits, many of which are under consideration for consolidation into a federal multidistrict litigation for pretrial proceedings (In re Lipitor (Atorvastatin) Litigation, MDL No. 2459 (JPML)).
The Rottenstein Law Group LLP encourages those who have taken Lipitor to visit this page for a free informational brochure that discusses Lipitor side effects and how to file a Lipitor lawsuit.
