BluMoxy founder and CEO Lisa Tranum shares creative holiday gift ideas that incorporate the year's photo memories.

People take so many pictures throughout the year; it just makes sense to put them to good use for the people who appreciate them the most.

While the holiday season is a happy time, it can be a real challenge to find the perfect gift for everyone. Lisa Tranum has the answer. Tranum is CEO of BluMoxy, a leading social media memory book service. She offers creative ideas for gifts that are unique, stress-free and incorporate the year’s photo memories in a one-of-a-kind present.

“People take so many pictures throughout the year; it just makes sense to put them to good use for the people who appreciate them the most,” says Tranum. She suggests four photo gift ideas for this holiday season:

1. Print a photo on canvas. Canvases have been used to decorate homes for centuries, but only recently have they been used for photographs. “A personally significant photograph on a canvas evokes a special memory every time we walk into the room, whether it’s a group family photo or a shot from a vacation a few years ago,” says Tranum. “Displaying a special photo memory on a canvas is also much more impressive than a photo in a traditional picture frame.”

2. Distress a picture onto a block of wood. This gift that is an instant crowd pleaser and looks professionally executed, even though it requires little effort. Use a small block of wood that is in good condition and select a photo. Place the photo on the block and paint it with two or three coats of a glue sealer like Mod Podge. “The photo will begin to take on the texture of the wood, giving it a fantastic distressed look that you can’t re-create in a picture frame,” says Tranum. “If you have time, craft multiple blocks in an assortment of sizes, creating a photo collection the recipient can display on a shelf at home or their desk in the office.”

3. Re-create an old photo. Every family has a few favorite photos that are constantly displayed and discussed. Gather the necessary people and items to re-create the old picture, and display the updated one next to the old one. “This gift idea brings together the best characteristic of photos, especially the memories we associate with them,” says Tranum. “Displaying the old and new photos next to each other is not only a fun way to see how time has passed, but it conjures up the old and new memories associated with each one.”

4. Photo on a coaster. Most of us use coasters, but they aren’t the most thoughtful gift — until now. “My favorite way to incorporate a photo with a coaster is to print out a map of a city you visited and cut the map into pieces to fit the size of the cork coasters,” suggest Tranum. After fitting them to the coasters and applying several coats of glue sealer, the coasters are water resistant, one of a kind, and a nice reminder of fun times and special places.
