What really makes 30 Days Unchained/#30unchained a fun challenge is that you’ll be using your right brain. We’re asking you to think in images, not just words, by responding to the challenge with photos or images you create, find or remix.

Live Unchained, the leading arts webzine and events organization celebrating women artists across the African diaspora, will launch an interactive challenge and countdown leading up to its anniversary celebration on Friday, February 8th. Beginning Thursday, January 10th (the day Live Unchained launched four years ago), everyday for 30 days, Live Unchained will feature its most popular interviews with female artists across the African diaspora at liveunchained.com. Each day participants will receive an “Unchained Challenge” inspired by the featured artist’s creative journey.

Live Unchained Founder, Kathryn Buford shares: “What really makes 30 Days Unchained/#30unchained a fun challenge is that you’ll be using your right brain. We’re asking you to think in images, not just words, by responding to the challenge with photos or images you create, find or remix.” For example, when Kathryn and co-founder, Miriam Moore, interviewed Issa Rae of “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” Rae shared: “Creating this series from the awkward black girl’s point of view was important to me because that voice just isn’t represented in anything I see on TV or film right now.” So, for the challenge of the day for this interview, participants could be asked: “What would you like to see mainstream media offer more of to you?” The challenge is not just to tell your answer, but show it with visuals.

To participate, follow 3 simple steps: 1.) Visit liveunchained.com to get the daily challenge at the bottom of the featured artist interview. 2.) Respond to the challenge, by creating, finding or remixing a photo or image. 3. Share your visual with Live Unchained on Facebook (facebook.com/iliveunchained), Pinterest (pinterest.com/liveunchained) or Twitter (@liveunchained). You MUST TAG Live Unchained and use the hashtag #30unchained.

Live Unchained will feature participant images on its social media outlets. Also, in honor of the “Terrifying, Strange and Beautiful” campaign launching in partnership with Warsan Shire at the Live Unchained Anniversary Celebration, 3 top image-makers will receive a “Terrifying, Strange and Beautiful package” including: poster designed by talented graphic designer Shari Neal, chic “Terrifying, Strange and Beautiful” t-shirt by Michelle of Creat.Ture Fashion Studio and copy of Shire’s book, “Teaching My Mother to Give Birth.”
