It's amazing to see the buyers' enthusiasm. They understand that property values in the south are better than they have been in a decade. Aging baby boomers realize that now is the time to get their second or retirement dream home. If they can, they are doing it.

Despite the sluggish economy and downplay of the real estate market, one trend becoming more evident is that those who have the means to buy, are now out looking to buy.
RPI Media, INC., producer of Ideal Living Magazine and The Live South Real Estate Shows, repot record attendance at their resort and retirement home expos that are being held throughout the northeast this winter. Out of their 6 shows thus far this winter, (Chicago, DC, King of Prussia, Greenwich, Long Island and Northern New Jersey) over 7000 individuals have attended.
"As we expected, cold weather and negative economic news bolstered show attendance which is up 11% this year over 2008. Home shoppers with the means know that now is the time to get the dream home and more relaxing lifestyle they desire, by taking advantage of current circumstances: low interest rates, favorable tax treatment and great places with lower costs of living," says Michael Hackeling, CEO of RPI.
Dave Robertson, Editor, Ideal Living Magazine, who presents a seminar, "Choose the Right Place", at the shows said, "It's amazing to see the buyers' enthusiasm. They understand that property values in the south are better than they have been in a decade. Aging baby boomers realize that now is the time to get their second or retirement dream home. If they can, they are doing it."
It's not just the shows that are supporting this trend, it's also the markets in which the exhibitors of the shows are from, such as Myrtle Beach, SC, Asheville, NC, and Wilmington, NC which were recently ranked in the top 15 of "The Healthiest Housing Markets" to watch in 2009 by Builder Online (dot) Com and consistently ranked as some of the best markets over the past 5 years.
"We make it convenient for the consumer. By meeting face to face with representatives from areas they are interested in, without having to leave their area, they save time and money", Robertson said, "It's not just about real estate, It's a lifestyle choice."
47% of surveyed* attendees report they plan a purchase within the next year and 61% say they plan to purchase within 2 years. The primary reason reported for wanting to buy now: 64% milder climate, 40% lower cost of living, and 44% the chance to enjoy more outdoor activities.
