Three Local Tourism Entities Call for Participation in a Tourism Marketing Survey

A new survey by the WHL Group, Local Travel Movement and Planeta.com endeavor to understand how well localities are promoted and then to curate good practices and suggestions for improving tourism promotion.

The survey asks: How good is tourism marketing where you live?

The aim of this survey is to help develop benchmarks for good practices and suggestions for improving tourism promotion.

As consumers increasingly seek unique experiences that enable them to interact with locals when they travel, three travel entities that place a special emphasis on keeping things local – the WHL Group, the Local Travel Movement and Planeta.com – have joined forces to gauge how satisfied the industry and local communities are with the way tourism is marketed around the world.

To develop as accurate a picture as possible of how localities are promoted, the trio has developed a short (eight-question) survey and asks for feedback, whether or not participants are involved in tourism or destination marketing.

The survey asks participants to consider marketing practices in a locale and of a locale by destination management/marketing organizations (DMOs), convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs) and public-relations agencies: “As a local, how engaged do you feel? Are you satisfied with the materials and information presented at local tourism kiosks and/or when you travel overseas and/or at trade shows? That kind of stuff.”

At a time when so many industry stakeholders – bloggers, local tour operators, global service organizations and more – are actively searching for new and viable solutions to improving market reach and brand visibility in tourism, the aim of this survey is to help develop benchmarks for good practices and suggestions for improving tourism promotion.

The closing date for participation is Friday, September 7. Findings will be shared online in mid-September. All individual responses are held in strict confidence, the data presented anonymously and/or in the aggregate.
