SAS 70 Type II certification validates the effectiveness of a service organization's internal controls and data security safeguards
Bloomfield Hills, MI (PRWEB) May 5, 2008
In recognition of its strong processes designed to provide the highest level of compliance assurance to its managed services customers, Logicalis (http://www.us.logicalis.com), a global provider of high-performance technology solutions, received an unqualified opinion from independent auditors for its first Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 (SAS 70) Type II compliance audit. This removes a significant auditing burden from Logicalis' managed services customers who are now no longer required to conduct their own technology process audits for those technologies managed by Logicalis such as databases, email and storage systems.
One such customer is Cosi, Inc. (http://www.GetCosi.com), a national premium convenience restaurant chain with 102 company-owned and 42 franchise restaurants in eighteen states, the District of Columbia and the United Arab Emirates. This publicly-traded company relies on Logicalis to provide a variety of managed services, including HPUX / Wintel Server Management Services, Oracle and SQL Management Services, Backup Management, Network (Firewall, routers, switches) Management, Storage Management, Application Management (Exchange), and equipment Hosting.
"We adhere to a strict set of government regulations that require our technology processes to be audited," said Larry van Goethem, Director of Infrastructure and Operations Information Technology for Cosi. "Logicalis' SAS 70 certification means we can now rely on their system of internal control which really saves us a great deal of time and money."
"SAS 70 Type II certification validates the effectiveness of a service organization's internal controls and data security safeguards," said Wayne Kiphart, Vice President, Managed Services, Logicalis. "Logicalis is extremely pleased to have achieved this great milestone that will provide our customers with the necessary proof of control required by their auditors."
Increasing compliance regulations require financial services firms to conduct regular audits of their technology processes, or those of their technology providers, to demonstrate that adequate controls and safeguards are in place when hosting or processing customer data. The most rigorous of these certifications is the SAS 70 Type II for Service Organizations, developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). By passing this significant audit, Logicalis has demonstrated that it possesses the internal controls necessary to impact financial reporting for its clients.
The intensive SAS audit was conducted at the Logicalis Enterprise Business Operations Center (EBOC) in Cincinnati. SAS 70 Type II is an in-depth audit of a service organization's control objectives and activities, including controls over information technology and related processes. An auditor's unqualified or "clean" opinion indicates that there were no exceptions noted during the audit and that the organization has established effectively designated control objectives and activities.
