We are thrilled to partner with MGMT and Platform One Entertainment’s Dare 2 Dream Program. This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness and funds for our program, which is important since we don’t charge our students for their lessons.
Chicago, IL (Vocus) June 22, 2010
Platform One Entertainment presents Dare 2 Dream; a benefit concert and silent auction starring the Grammy-nominated band, MGMT, in a special Lollapalooza aftershow party at the House of Blues in Chicago on August 6th 2010. A portion of the proceeds from this special event will benefit The People's Music School and help foster support and awareness for music education throughout the Chicago community. Tickets for the event go on sale June 25th and are available at Ticketmaster.
The People's Music School is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides musical education opportunities for those who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
"As a young band, we’re excited to help a program like People Music School that gets people interested in pursuing a musical education from a young age, especially since it is free and open to anyone regardless of financial background,” said MGMT band members. “It’s pretty cool that Platform One Entertainment and Dare 2 Dream are able to create events involving such unique and special organizations.”
The People’s Music School was started 34 years ago by Dr. Rita Simo with only $625, a donated piano and a dream to make the world a better place. Today the non-profit school serves over 500 students in its Chicago Uptown facility and in various outreach initiatives within the Chicago Public School System.
“We are thrilled to partner with MGMT and Platform One Entertainment’s Dare 2 Dream Program.” Said Ms Simo. “ This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness and funds for our program, which is important since we don’t charge our students for their lessons.
Platform One Entertainment launched Dare2Dream; the benefit concert and silent auction series to generate awareness, support and funding for some of the most meaningful non-profit organizations in the country. Dare 2 Dream events have generated noteworthy visibility and funding for The National Foundation for Entrepreneurship, The Common Ground Foundation, The Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness, The University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, Working in the Schools, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Partnership For Cures.
“As one of the only totally free community music schools in the country, the People's Music School is a special place, said Jeff Sodikoff, President of Platform One Entertainment and Dare2Dream. “ We’re excited that MGMT and Lollapalooza have jumped on board to support this powerful vehicle for transforming lives,”
With their unique and prolific style of music, Brooklyn-based MGMT are the voice of a new generation. The Grammy-nominated band burst onto the music scene in late 2007 with their critically-lauded debut, Oracular Spectacular. Crisscrossing the globe for two years on tour, MGMT brought their incredible live show to the masses and cemented themselves as festival favorites. They recently released their sophomore album, Congratulations, to more raves from fans and critics alike. Associated Press said “MGMT sounds spectacular on sophomore disc,” while Reuters heralded the album as “timeless.”
Other music artists who have performed on behalf of Dare 2 Dream causes include Kings of Leon, Common, Cypress Hill, Talib Kweli, Gavin Rossdale, Gov't Mule and Blues Traveler.
