We're very excited to open our latest playground, which will benefit all children on the Westside

Playa Vista today debuted a universally-accessible playground for children of all abilities at the grand opening of its new Sports Park. The playground was designed by Shane's Inspiration, a nationally-recognized non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children with disabilities, and developed by Playa Vista. This playground joins 11 other uniquely designed Shane's Inspiration playgrounds throughout Southern California with 71 projects in development throughout the United States and as far away as Bangalore, India.

Located within the new seven-acre Sports Park, the playground allows children with disabilities to play side-by-side with their able-bodied peers, fostering acceptance and awareness. It features a special spongy, safe surface and a wide array of challenging and interactive play components.

"We're very excited to open our latest playground, which will benefit all children on the Westside," said Shane's Inspiration Co-Founder and Executive Director Tiffany Harris. "All children deserve to play together in a safe and engaging environment regardless of their mental or physical ability. We are grateful to Steve Soboroff and Tom Jones at Playa Vista for championing this cause and making this project possible."

"The Shane's Inspiration playground and the Sports Park as a whole will bring a wonderful and much-needed resource to the local community," said Playa Vista President Steve Soboroff. "There is nothing better than witnessing happiness on children's faces, and Playa Vista is proud to be involved in such an accomplishment."

"It has been a pleasure to work with the team at Shane's Inspiration to create this fantastic amenity, right here in Playa Vista's backyard," remarked Tom Jones, vice president of planning for Playa Vista. "We can't wait for children from throughout the local area to begin using the playground, as well as the entire Sports Park facilities."

Designed by internationally-recognized landscape architectural firm EDAW, the Playa Vista Sports Park features state-of-the-art soccer and Little League baseball fields and basketball and tennis courts. The park also includes picnic areas and the first segment of a two-mile-long trail that parallels the Riparian Corridor, and includes exercise stations and a variety of scenic points.

The Sports Park grand opening event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Shane's Inspiration ceremony at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available within the community. From Jefferson Boulevard, turn south onto Playa Vista Drive (east of Lincoln Blvd.).
