“Running the 5k for the Ella Baker Center was one of the best ideas I had,” said Querido Galdo
Oakland, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 22, 2011
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is once again participating in the annual Oakland Running Festival held by Running for a Better Oakland. On Sunday, March 27th, The Ella Baker Center is partnering with a local, family-owned Oakland bar, Somar, to host their Oakland Running Festival post-race party.
On the day of the festival, Somar, located at 1727 Telegraph Avenue, 1 block from 19th Street BART, will open its doors at 12 noon, get out the barbecue grill, pump up the music, and serve delicious discounted libations.
This year, the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights team includes 112 runners. The organization set a goal of raising $25,000 for the people-powered campaigns that bring peace, opportunity, and justice to Oakland and California.
“Running the 5k for the Ella Baker Center was one of the best ideas I had,” said Querido Galdo. “I got my running groove back, spent the afternoon with some of the most beautiful people and places in Oakland, and raised cash for an organization that is creating real solutions to Oakland's biggest challenges.”
Somar hosts many events, ranging from small to large, for non-profits and for-profits organizations. As a family-owned business, the owners treat their staff like members of the family. They extend this warmth to their customers to ensure each event is a success, and every guest is comfortable and having a good time.
Somar will be holding a special event of their own. It is their 2nd year in Uptown and there is a celebration on Thursday, March 24th, starting at 4pm. Somar will be serving complimentary wine, appetizers and cake. Gift bags for the first 100 people.
