The creators of the popular Love Bug have released a titillating league table of their iconic emoticons. The best selling emoticon in 2009 was “I love you”. In 2010, “You bring out the animal in me” rose five places to capture the top spot. “We keep a league table of the most popular Bugs,” said Sally Foo, Marketing Director for the brand. “The winning emoticons help us determine the mood of the nation. Last year, the mood was conservative. But this year, the mood has definitely become more playful.”

The creators of the popular Love Bug have released a titillating league table of their iconic emoticons.

“We keep a league table of the most popular Bugs,” said Sally Foo, Marketing Director for the brand. “The winning emoticons help us determine the mood of the nation. Last year, the mood was conservative. But this year, the mood has definitely become more playful.”

The Love Bugs, which are mostly bought by men (only 32% of women buy them), are divided into five categories: flirty; romantic; sexy; remorseful and dark.

The best selling emoticon in 2009 was “I love you” which came from the ‘Romantic’ category. In 2010, “You bring out the animal in me” rose five places to capture the top spot and came from the ‘Sexy’ category.

“If the Love Bugs are any indication of the future, then it’s certainly looking like a mischievous year ahead,” concluded Ms Foo.

The Love Bugs have traditionally been sold around the world via MMS. But this year, the company intends to make a bigger push on the Apple platform.
