Location-aware London dating site Lovestruck.com has announced that a full-experience version of its successful dating site is now available as a free-to-download app in the Android Market.

Brett Harding, Managing Director of Lovestruck, says “We’ve recently experienced a sharp increase in Android devices accessing the site, so it made sense to complement our incredibly successful iPhone app with a native Android app as soon as possible. Our super-fast Android app enables our busy single professional Members to date whenever, however and wherever they want. ”

Perhaps the most ground-breaking aspect of the Lovestruck app is the ability to notify you of ‘Lovestruckers’ in close proximity. Harding adds “Picture this: You’re in a bar with your friends and you check your Android app to see if any Lovestruckers who meet your search criteria are also in the bar, or at least very near it. Being able to wink or message those nearby essentially turns your smartphone into the ultimate icebreaker.”

It seems that more and more of the major handset manufacturers are viewing Android as a useful solution for their smartphones – according to new figures from respected retail watcher GfK, 20% of all smartphone sales in April 2010 were Android-powered.

The Lovestruck Android mobile dating app currently serves London and the UK’s other major cities, plus New York, Dublin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney.
