Finalists for the 2nd Quarter of the 23rd year of the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest were announced today by Joni Labaqui, the contest Director, and all were from the US.

"We had entries this quarter from the United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, Czech Republic and Slovenia, but only Americans made it to finalist", Labaqui said, "and that is unusual. Contest judging is anonymous. The judges simply look at the art, not the name, background, where they are from or any other information about the contestant."

The finalists this quarter range from age 21 to 60. The contest is open to all who wish to pursue a career in illustration but are not professionals yet.

Second Quarter Finalists

Samuel Baydresch of Missouri
Jared Collins of New York
Lucas Durham of Illinois
Jon Eno of Texas
Joshua Hood of Idaho
Luis Menacho of New York
Ron Sanders of California
Karen Slater of California

The eight finalists art is sent to four of the contest judges. Of the eight finalists, three will be winners of the quarter. The three winners of each quarter are awarded cash prizes, a week long intensive workshop, an awards ceremony and are also published in the annual L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future. Writers have their own contest and our winning illustrators illustrate the winning writers stories. The judging process, once the finalists are determined by the coordinating judge, takes a little over a month.

A Grand Prize winner is announced at the annual awards ceremony and is selected from another panel of judges and receives an additional $5,000.00.
