New author Meghan Muriel packs them in at Barnes & Noble bookstore in Syracuse.

It was so exciting to have a line of people waiting for me to sign the book. There were at least 3 people holding the newspaper article announcing this signing in the line! That was incredible to see.

Meghan Muriel of Syracuse, New York, was one of twelve winners in last year's L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest for her story, "Siren," which won over thousands of entries.

The contest, now in it's 29th year, created by best-selling author L. Ron Hubbard, is a merit-based competition initiated to discover and encourage talented beginning writers of science fiction and fantasy and help launch their careers. Winners are treated to not only publication of their work in the annual L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future, but are also given a week-long workshop and a gala awards ceremony. A key focus of the workshop is promoting yourself, and based on L. Ron Hubbard's famous articles on the writers life, one key element learned is to do author book signings.

Meghan had her first book signing this past weekend and she can't stop talking about it. "It was so exciting to have a line of people waiting for me to sign the book," Meghan said. "There were at least 3 people holding the newspaper article announcing this signing in the line! That was incredible to see. We sold over half of the stock of the L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 28 in the store! The manager was very happy, and so was I."

Her plans are to write middle grade children's science-fiction and fantasy books, with illustrations.
