We have consistently demonstrated the tremendous impact occupants can have on building performance, and working with GSA gives us a perfect opportunity to inspire lasting behavior change and help kids form energy-saving habits that can last a lifetime.
Oakland, CA. (PRWEB) October 01, 2012
Lucid, pioneer provider of cloud-based energy information management software and real-time energy feedback technology for buildings, is partnering with the Green Schools Alliance and its member schools across North America to reduce energy consumption through performance feedback and behavior change. Lucid will work with the Green Schools Alliance to host its flagship electricity reduction competition, the Green Cup Challenge®, which kicks off in New York City public schools in November 2012, and spreads to schools nationally in February 2013.
“This partnership is a terrific example of how Lucid’s technology can be used by young people to understand how their behavior can have a meaningful effect on energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Andrew deCoriolis, Lucid’s director of marketing. “We have consistently demonstrated the tremendous impact occupants can have on building performance, and working with GSA gives us a perfect opportunity to inspire lasting behavior change and help kids form energy-saving habits that can last a lifetime.”
“Working with Lucid gives GSA the opportunity to really scale the Green Cup Challenge, and further our initiatives of helping schools track and manage resource consumption in their schools,” said Peg Watson, president of Green Schools Alliance. “Through this partnership, we can provide additional value to our member schools through the integration of innovative technologies that can make our programs more effective and our schools more efficient.”
Lucid’s Building Dashboard broadens the reach of the Green Schools Alliance
The Green Schools Alliance (GSA), founded in 2007, has grown to over 3,000 member K-12 schools that share a common goal of addressing sustainability and climate-change challenges. By working with school administrators, students, parents, teachers and facilities managers, GSA is able to promote best practices, implement resource-efficiency programs, and report success to other members. Now in its sixth year as a Green Schools Alliance program, the Green Cup Challenge highlights the GSA’s approach of combining education and school engagement with CO2 reduction. To date, the program has averted an estimated four million pounds of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere.
Through its partnership with Lucid, GSA aims to promote and expand the Green Cup Challenge to a broader audience, and use Lucid’s Building Dashboard platform to engage students and staff with dynamic building performance data that can maximize energy savings.
Green Button amplifies the benefits of the Green Schools Alliance
The partnership between Lucid and GSA comes at a time when changes in the utility and energy market make data more accessible. Earlier this year, Lucid announced its support of the Green Button Initiative, a White House-inspired, industry-led effort to give customers secure access to their own energy data in a standard format. As an early adopter of Green Button, Lucid will be able to more easily provide energy consumption data to schools who are served by utilities that have adopted Green Button, to help them leverage that data to make smart energy efficiency decisions. Lucid and the Green Schools Alliance will expand their collaboration to bring performance monitoring, resource tracking, reporting and engagement to the schools in the near future.
