Lingua Franca, in association with Rosetta Translation, announce the schedule of their ‘Luxembourgish for Beginners’ classes in the City of London. Also known as Letzebuergesch, it is the national language of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
The First Term 2011 is due to start on 15th January, running until 19th March. The Second Term 2011 runs from 26th March till 18th June. The course includes a free taster lesson, open to all, on Saturday 8th January at 10am, at the offices of Rosetta Translation, 47 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1BJ. This lesson provides an overview of the language and the course.
Upon enrolment, students will receive a welcome pack which includes tourist brochures, maps and guide books on the Grand Duchy, courtesy of the Luxembourg Tourist Office in London.
The course is being taught by Eddie Bohnert, who was visiting tutor in Luxembourgish at the Department of Germanic Studies at Sheffield University.
As he explains, “the course is primarily aimed at novices, but is also suitable for those who wish to learn more about the structure, vocabulary and (new) spelling rules of the language. It is ideal for people whose partner hails from the Grand Duchy, the children of Luxembourg émigrés, for individuals who want to apply for citizenship, for business people thinking of relocating there, and for Londoners who would simply like to learn more about the Grand Duchy, and perhaps prepare for a holiday there.”
A former student commented, "the sessions are very enjoyable, with a skilful mix of conversation, grammar, Luxembourg history and culture in text and on video, language games and fun - the morning seems to fly by. The small group tuition means that every student gets personal attention. The course materials, all personally created by Eddie Bohnert and unique to the course, are very comprehensive and build into an invaluable reference manual. It has been a hugely rewarding experience.”
Rosetta Translation, whose primary business operations include financial and legal translation, as well as interpreting services in London and worldwide, is proud to support the teaching of minority languages such as Luxembourgish.
