Real Estate Marketing Insider Names its Luxury Market of the Week as Aspen, Colorado

The Real Estate Marketing Insider names its Luxury Market of the Week as Aspen, CO following news of four big-ticket sales in the last week and forecasts of even more before year’s end.

The Real Estate Marketing Insider announced that it was naming Aspen, CO, a ski resort village and home to an internationally-renowned music festival, as its Luxury Market of the Week. REMI chose Aspen after reports that the county had recorded over $50 million of sales in the past week, and expected to double that figure before the year ended.

Pitkin County, high in the Rocky Mountains and home to Aspen, CO, has reported four separate sales worth at least $11 million since December 20. This number includes an estate which sold for $20.75 million. Since December 1, there have been thirty million-dollar sales in Aspen, eleven of which carried price tags of between $3 million and $9 million. Total sales have made it close to $135 million for the month of December, smashing the posted number for December 2011 of $77.7 million and nearing the figure for December 2007, the last figure before the housing crash.

Sales aren’t expected to slow in the remainder of December either; in fact, experts predict even more sales of over $15 million in the next few days. As always, the motivations behind luxury sales are complex; but one expert cited anxiety about the impending increases in capital gains tax as fueling sales. Wealthy homeowners are anticipating that come January 1, whether through a new balanced budget or the execution of the fiscal cliff, the capital gains tax will increase by 15 to 20 percent; in response, these home investors are “scrambling to make acquisitions.”

To whatever extent capital gains are affecting the late sales push, Aspen also benefits from reputation and its long-term status as a pinnacle of luxury marketing. Using a combination of marketing tools for real estate, including marketing online, via social networks, and older methods like postcards and phone leads, Aspen realtors have been able to attract buyers from all over the world. This season has been no exception; among the buyers in December were individuals from Texas and North Carolina, with yearly sales including buyers from as far away as Saudi Arabia. Between its successful marketing campaigns and its prominence as a year-round destination for winter sports, culture, and luxury, Aspen has earned its reputation as a world-class luxury market. To celebrate its impressive sales numbers in December, REMI is excited to name Aspen its Luxury Market of the Week.

The Real Estate Marketing Insider named Aspen, CO as its Luxury Market of the Week. REMI said that the award was to recognize Aspen’s December sales push, which has cleared $135 million and included $50 million of sales last week alone.
