Mesa, AZ (PRWEB) February 07, 2012
Empire Precision Machining (EPM), one of the few machine shops in the west able to mill extremely large components, doubled that capacity last fall with the addition of a 20,000-pound-capacity CNC horizontal boring mill. A new SNK/Nissin BP130-3.5 mill – the shop’s second – was installed, calibrated and commissioned at EPM’s Mesa, Arizona facility. A third will be added this year.
The new mill is part of an expansion program that began in 2010 when the machine shop doubled its facility’s footprint. Technicians for the 30-year-old company perform repair, restoration and fabrication services on all types and sizes of machine and heavy equipment parts. They also have the capacity to perform precise inspection and measurement services virtually anywhere, using a FARO portable coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Their expertise with oversize and overweight components (up to 20,000 pounds) and their reputation for quality workmanship have earned EPM international ranking as one the top five repair machine shops in the Caterpillar global network.
EPM will also expand its High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) capacity this year. The HVOF process, which creates a super-hard coating that replaces (and outperforms) traditional chrome, is ideal for cylindrical components. EPM is one of only two operations in the United States to offer the coating during repair, and will add a second HVOF booth in the coming months.
